2024, serigraph
dominion was created in my studio after exploring Gabriola Island during an art residency in 2022. I uncovered traces of the island's brick-making past and the labour of those who shaped it. Among them were Chinese workers, brought to the island, whose presence has vanished—no names, no stories, no footprints remain.
On Brickyard Beach, I photographed 100 brick fragments, each one a small witness to this silent history. Though I couldn’t carry the bricks back with me, I’ve been working with the serigraph process—building and unbuilding layers—to reckon with the island’s colonial legacy and the forgotten hands that once shaped its soil.
